Get mac to look for usb drive

After turning it back on the fan stopped and battery was back on, but it did take a few minutes for adapter light to go back on a start charging. The batter sign showed an x and said no battery available. I checked terminal and nothing was taking up the CPU. My MacBook pro suddenly shut off and when it turned back on the fan was constantly running.
