You'll get about the same performance doing actual things once the things are open (some things do have better performance, Minecraft for example) sometimes you will get better performance just because Linux. I've read in the comments below that Ubuntu isn't going to run much better than macOS and this is half-true. It's much faster running Ubuntu than macOS 10.13.x. It's actually my main work computer or on-site jobs.
